paraparas at dusk

state highway 4 (or the paraparas highway as its known locally) is a special treat to drive.

it was the first place i drove when we got our car in wanganui. its where the car that catches fire caught fire. and its now become the measure of my comfort level with narrow, windy, two lane highways littered with single lane bridges.

the first time i drove back down this highway from raetihi to wanganui it took almost two and a half hours (plus the time it took to put out the car fire).

by myself i can make the trip in about an hour and a half but with the family i have to take it a bit slower since the last two times out the kids have taken turns getting car sick...
