it took two trips to tongariro national park to do everything i wanted to do.

first and foremost, i wanted to tramp the tongariro alpine crossing since by many accounts it is the best single day hike in all of new zealand.

second, i wanted to summit mt. ngauruhoe. but as you can tell from the early morning cloud cover, weather wasn't going to favor a climb to the top of a volcano on this day.
