emerald lakes

a local told me the tongariro crossing was one of new zealand's best hikes along with hundreds of anonymous friends. there are a lot of people making this trip and this is the one picture of the emerald lakes i got without any of my 'anonymous friends'.

in the foreground you get a sense of the lovely scree that makes up the 'path' from the top of red crater to the emerald lakes.
